Instagram Support Center A vanishing photo or video can be sent as a group or individual communication. If someone opens a fading photo or video you gave them, the message is no longer accessible in their inbox unless you've authorized a replay. The senders option to fade photos and videos was first introduced in 2015.
Here's how it works: When you send a fading image or video, a small copy is also sent to your phone. This copy has an expiration date, after which time the file will be completely deleted from your device.
You can choose to have your disappearing images and videos saved for a specified amount of time before they're removed from your account. You can also set a limit on the number of files that can be faded at one time.
Note that if you delete your app from your device before all the files associated with a fading campaign have expired, those images and videos will no longer be able to be seen by anyone else except the person(s) you shared them with.
Disappearing photos and videos can be used in marketing campaigns to encourage users to click through to other parts of your site or app. After all, who doesn't want to miss out on a secret scene?!
The feature is available to use in the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Photos and videos are removed from the sender's device immediately but may not be deleted until its storage space is full or another app has been installed over the photo or video gallery. If you need to retrieve a fading file, contact support.
A vanishing photo or video is one that you shoot with the camera while composing a message in Instagram. You may also capture additional items in a direct chat, including as individual messages, conversation history, and postings sent back and forth, without notifying the other person. These images can be seen by anyone who finds them, which means you should only share private material in vanishing photos.
You can't recover deleted photos from your memory card, so be careful what you delete. Fortunately, Vanishing Photos lets you salvage some content from your device's memory.
To do this, open the app and click on the menu icon, then scroll down to find the Settings option. Here you will find all the recent photos that have been saved to your device along with their original location on the memory card. You can see which ones are still available and download them directly into new posts on Instagram.
Instagram Support Center If someone gives you a fading photo or video, you may view it by tapping the blue play button in your chat with them. You may simply press the chat to get directly to your discussion without having to watch it. To view your past conversations, click the menu icon in the top-right corner of any page, then select View History.
Instagram Support Center You can't see fading photographs or videos after you've sent them, but you can check if they were delivered, viewed, replayed, or screenshotted. To do so, visit the Instagram Support Center.
Pictures or videos shot outside of the Instagram app are automatically permanent messages, although you may click on the message and select Unsend after sending it. This permanently deletes the message. Recipients can use their mobile device's snapshot capability to capture a screenshot of a vanishing message. Then, they should visit www.delete.instagram.com to delete the image.
