Social media professionals all agree on one thing: the answer is yes. According to Daniel Post Senning, the great-great grandson of etiquette legend Emily Post and co-author of the 18th edition of "Emily Post's Etiquette," it's fine to block, unfriend, or close an account for pretty much any reason. "Block someone to prevent further abuse of a social channel," he says. "Unfriend someone who has hurt your feelings, or who you believe to be causing you harm either physically or emotionally. Close an account if it has been compromised."
That said, there are some cases where unfriending someone is not appropriate. If someone is seriously ill or injured, for example, it's okay to show support by leaving them posts or comments. But if they start to complain about being left out, that's when you should unfriend them.
The same goes for if someone starts harassing other users - even if it's only through comments under their own posts. And finally, as with all things social media, use common sense and restraint. If you feel like blocking or unfriending someone, only do so in very rare circumstances. It's not recommended as a general practice.
Now, does this mean you should unfriend everyone on Facebook? No. It's not advisable to remove friends from your life simply because you disagree with their views. That's what real friendships are for!
Should you break links with them and unfriend them? For the vast majority of people, the answer is most likely yes. It is one of many things you must do in order to move on with your life and make great decisions in the future. Of course, this isn't always possible but if you take the time to think through your actions before reacting to their posts will help keep you out of trouble.
It's also important to remember that while you are still married you are still expected to act like a team. If your spouse posts something that makes you feel uncomfortable then you should address it with them directly rather than going online and criticizing or complaining about them behind their back.
Finally, don't expect everyone else to know what kind of treatment you received at the hands of your spouse or partner. No matter how much you may want others to know, only you can decide whether or not to post details about your marriage on the internet.
Even if you unfriend someone, they can still view your profile and message you. If you don't want someone to view your profile, the items you put on your timeline, tag you, or send you messages, block them. Block people who email you without permission from Facebook.
Blocking someone is different than deleting a friend request. When you delete a friend request, that person will no longer be able to find you on Facebook. They won't be notified when you post new content or update your status. However, they can still view your profile, even if you hide it from public viewing. They can also send you messages through Facebook. If you don't want to talk to this person anymore, you should block them.
People unfriend others for many reasons. Sometimes people just go through periods where they don't want to be friends with anyone. Others may have relationships fall apart and not want to be in contact with their exes. Still others may feel blocked by someone and need some time away from comments or posts about that person.

Unfriending someone suggests that you are no longer close or friends, and so you do not need to know everything that happens in their life. Blocking someone should indicate something more severe, such as harassment or something along those lines. If you block someone, they have violated your privacy.
They may have blocked you because they want to stop receiving notifications about new posts on your wall, or maybe they don't like your posts. Some users will also block others if they feel like it's harassing them too much for nothing else than saying goodbye. Finally, some users will block others if they feel like it's necessary to do so in order to protect themselves from being attacked or harmed.
The user who has been blocked cannot do anything about it, except hope that the other person unblocks them. If they want to get back at you, they can send you a private message or post on one of your walls. Of course, there is a chance that you could stop receiving messages from them if they choose to do so too.
