For example, if someone tells you that your shirt is ugly, would you rather hear that or see it for yourself? Most likely, you would choose to see it for yourself so that you can fix it before going out. This shows that positivity is a choice; therefore, anything in life can be positive or negative depending on how you view it.

People tend to think that negativity is a default mode for humans. This is not true. We can choose what we focus on. If you focus on the negatives, you will feel negative. If you focus on the positives, you will feel positive. It is as simple as that.

For example, if you keep hearing nasty comments about your dress sense, then you might start thinking that dresses are not your thing and you should probably stop shopping at high-end fashion stores.

For example, if you believe that life is unfair, then no matter what successes you have, you will always feel depressed about your situation. On the other hand, if you learn to accept failures as part of life, then even if you succeed at something, you will not let it go to your head.

Many people think that being positive means never having any failures or shortcomings. For example, if you fail an exam but learn from your mistake, this does not mean that you are letting go of trying next time.

Negativity constantly harms your body-mind-soul, as well as others around you. Choosing negativity over positive is a decision, although it is usually made subconsciously. Your unpleasant ideas and powerful emotions appear to flow out of you on their own. However, when you take responsibility for your life, you can choose what comes out of you each day.

If you try to push away your feelings or think them unworthy, you are making the same choice over and over again. Even though you may not be aware of it, you are giving power to those feelings by reacting to them. By taking a moment to recognize your reaction, you can choose differently next time.

Being negative also means failing to live up to your full potential. You can only do so much in a given day and week, but if you focus your energy on what is wrong with your life instead of everything that is right, then you are choosing not to improve yourself. Even though you may not be able to change certain facts, you can decide how you react to them. By changing your response, you can grow stronger both mentally and physically.
