When you put someone on the restricted list, you're still friends, but you only share your posts with them when you pick public as the audience or when you tag them in the post. You can't stop being friends with someone just because you blocked them.
When you add someone to the Facebook restricted list, you keep your friendship with them while restricting the postings they can view. They will only view your postings if you have set the audience to "Public" (as shown by the globe icon), if they are tagged in it, or if a common friend tags both of you in it. The restricted person won't be notified that you added them to the list and won't be able to see your updates until you remove them from the list.
Restricting yourself or another user prevents them from posting new updates or photos. When someone is restricted, normal comments and messages still go through, but the poster won't see those people's responses.
Restricted users can't post publicly, but they can reply to or like other posts. They can also share links via Messenger or email.
Users can be placed on the restricted list by any member of the public who knows their username. To protect privacy, only your friends can see what updates you post and they can do so without your approval. Restricted users cannot tell that they're on the list, nor can they get off it.
Users can check whether they're on the restricted list by going to their Privacy Settings page. Under the Restrictions section, you'll find the option to Check Your Status.
You can also use the status update feature to notify all your friends that you've been restricted.
To add someone to your restricted list, do the following:
Do you want to make your timeline and posts inaccessible to a Facebook friend? If this is the case, you can add them to your restricted list. They will not be able to see your profile information or activity from your account.
Adding someone to your restricted list is easy. First, go to their profile and click on the 'View Profile' link under their cover photo. This will take you to their profile page. Next, scroll down until you see the 'Restrict My Access' option.
You can also restrict access to specific apps that you use alongside Facebook. For example, if you use Instagram then you can limit what people see on your profile by adding them as a user of your app. Check out the Help Center for more info on limiting what people can do on your profile.
Finally, you can block people completely. Blocking someone prevents them from accessing your Facebook account at all. You will need to do this before blocking them from your restricted list because once you block someone, they will no longer be able to access your account even if they were previously added to it.
To access or change your restricted list, follow these steps:
Press a friend's name in your friends list or on one of their posts in your news feed, then tap the Friends button and then Take a Break. Tap See Options, then tap "Hide your posts from [name of friend]" under the Limit What [name of friend] Will See section. This will add the buddy to your restricted list. They won't be able to see what you post on Facebook, but they can still contact you through email and other methods.
You can simply confirm this by heading to the person's profile and searching for the vacant area at the top. The empty area denotes the difference between public and private postings, and if you are unable to access part of the person's posts, it signifies you have been added to the restricted list.
In addition, there are several other ways by which you can be made aware that you have been restricted by another user or group. For example:
If someone adds you to their Restricted List, you will not be able to view their profile. However, they may add you back by clicking the Un-Restrict button found next to your name on their profile page.
If you find yourself on a Page that is protected by privacy settings, you have been added to the restricted list of the owner or managers of the Page. You will not be able to access the content unless one of them removes you from the list.
Users can also notify others that they are restricting other users' access to their account. This can occur in two ways: via email notification or through a special icon that appears next to the username of a user who has been restricted.
Email notifications are sent when another user requests access to their account. Users can control how they receive email notifications by going to Settings > Privacy Options > Email Notifications.
If you have someone on your restricted list, they will not be able to view your story. Any changes you make to your story's privacy settings will affect all photographs and videos in your tale, as well as those you upload in the future.
