By editing your profile, you can change your Instagram name and username as much as you want. Don't worry, you won't lose followers as a result of it. Your username must be unique or it will be unavailable. However, Instagram account names might be the same. If this is the case, then both usernames will appear on your profile.
To change your Instagram username:
Scroll down until you see the "Username" option.
Type in the new username you'd like to use and click Save Profile.
Your new username will now be active and shown on your profile page along with any other accounts that you follow on Instagram. Anyone who visits your profile will also be able to see the new username immediately after they visit.
If you have multiple accounts under one email address, then you'll need to edit each profile individually to change your username.
Changing your Instagram username is easy and free. You should do it whenever you feel like it's necessary. For example, if you decide to start a new business then you could change your username to reflect that.
Some social sites limit the amount of times you may change your username, while others prohibit it entirely. Because Instagram is a username-free zone, you may change your Instagram handle whenever and as often as you like. There's a distinction to be made between your username and your display name. The former is what appears in the comment section of any post that you publish; the latter is the name that shows up next to your name in the drop-down menu when someone comments on one of your photos.
To change your Instagram username, go to your Account Settings page. In the left-hand column, click on Username. Type in the new name you'd like to use for your account and click Save Changes.
An Instagram username is important because it's how people find your account. If you want people to see your updates, you need to make sure they can locate you. Using a relevant and descriptive username is the best way to do this. Some users may also use the @username format to send private messages to other users.
Users can also follow each other on Instagram. When you begin following another user, they will receive an email or text message notification that there is a new follower. They can then look you up and view all of your posts by going to their homepage and clicking on the Follow button next to your name.
Changing your Instagram display name has no effect on your account, so if you want to try out a different name, upgrading your display name is a fantastic method to do it. However, altering your Instagram username might have some severe consequences, so there's reason to be cautious. Changing your username without warning or explanation can cause people to lose trust in your account, making it harder for them to find you. If you plan to change your username, we recommend trying out a few options before making a decision so that you don't hurt feelings or leave comments on unrelated accounts.
There are two methods you can use to change your Instagram username: the old-school way and the new-school way. The old-school way involves sending an email from your email address on file with Instagram. The email will contain instructions on how to change your username. This is the only way to change your username through the old system, as sending a message from someone else's email address will result in the message being deleted from the inbox of its original sender.
The new system was released in 2015 and makes changing your username much easier. Simply go to your profile page and click the "edit" button next to your username. Here you can make changes such as adding or removing characters from your existing display name. You can also change your username here and it will not delete messages if they were sent using the old system.
Your username, on the other hand, displays at the top of your profile as well as at the end of the URL for your profile. It must be unique to you. It cannot contain any symbols or special characters except - and _.
In addition, your username can only include letters a-z and numbers 0-9. It can't include spaces, hyphens, or other punctuation.
Finally, we restrict user names to avoid confusion and abuse. We will not allow accounts that are used to send abusive messages, post harmful content, or create distractions from Instagram's purpose.
If you would like to change your username, click the "Settings" button in the lower right corner of your screen. Then click the "User Name" option near the top of the menu.
"NO!" is the answer. There is no other option but to wait for the lock period to expire. The Instagram name cannot be altered for the following 14 days. As a result, Instagram changed its policy in 2019 and prohibited users from changing their profile names more than twice in two weeks. Previously, they allowed name changes once a month.
When you change your Instagram name, do you lose followers? Possibly. When you change your username, everything in the app will be updated to reflect your new account name. Your new username will appear in all of your previous comments, mentions, and likes.
If you stop using the app for some time then delete it from your iOS device, your old name will still be associated with your Instagram account until you log back in. This means that people who followed you before the name change will still see your new handle.
There's no way to remove your old name from your profile. If you want to let everyone know about your new account, then use the following steps to create a new Instagram name.
