Women's celibacy is rather steady. Notably, male sexlessness among married males is on the rise. On the one hand, the incel tale of increased male celibacy appears to be validated here; an increasing number of single young men are undergoing protracted sexual droughts. On the other hand, however inadequate marriage counseling may be, it still represents a commitment and thus women should not be forced into marriages they do not want.
Now, as for why women remain fertile even after marriage- well, that's another story.
Young males who are having difficulty finding love partners are finding consolation in their common experience. They even developed the name "Incel" to represent their position, which they described as "involuntary celibacy." Incel is short for involuntary celibate.
In North America, Europe, and some other parts of the world, the term "involuntary celibacy" is used to describe young men who have no way to find a marriage partner or have the resources to support a relationship development effort. These lonely young men may spend their time socializing online, playing video games, or doing other activities, but many turn to violence against themselves or others to try to bring about the end of their own lives.
In South Korea, there are an estimated 5,000 to 10,000 male suicides each year, with 80 percent of them being aged between 20 and 39. The number of female suicides is much lower, at about 15 per 100,000 people. Korean men who are unemployed or underemployed are more likely to commit suicide than those who are employed.
Many studies have shown that loneliness is one of the most important factors in predicting suicide. Even when other significant problems are present, such as depression or alcohol abuse, someone who is alone often has no one to help them overcome these difficulties.
Celibacy represents global sacrifice, self-discipline, and self-control. It represents both detachment from desire and the power that comes with ascetic practice. Celibacy creates a conundrum in terms of masculinity, because asexuality might be viewed as effete or unmanly. However, some modern men have reinterpreted this concept by becoming priests, monks, or nuns. This display of strength and courage can only be achieved through rigorous training and preparation.
The power of celibacy has been recognized throughout history. Many great figures in religion have chosen this path for themselves. They include some of the most important people in history: Jesus, Paul, John, Thomas, Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, and Edison just to name a few. Modern-day saints also recognize its worth; there are currently more than one hundred thousand celibates in over one thousand Roman Catholic churches around the world.
It is not possible to quantify exactly what level of power each of these men had during their lives, but it's safe to say that they were influential beyond measure. Jesus was the founder of Christianity and his death and resurrection changed the course of history. Paul was one of the most important philosophers of his time and he too had a profound impact on those around him. John and Thomas both witnessed the execution of Jesus and are considered pillars of the early church.
